Our History

Originally started as a class project in a University dorm room, Stars in The Night has expanded dramatically to become what is now the most widely used theatre resource online.

Successful theatre artists need to be fluent in a wide array of literature. Artists are constantly performing research and struggling to stay up-to-date with both classic and contemporary materials. Our founder, Katherine Jones, realized that this time-consuming research process could be made far more efficient by harnessing the power of the internet. While at Stanford, she developed on online database of theatre characters. In the subsequent years, she worked with theatre experts to add full guides for shows, sample audition/practice materials and social networking capabilities.

In January of 2018 we launched the Stars in The Night PRO subscription service with the goal of giving actors, directors and backstage staff access to comprehensive theatre research and networking tools.

During the 2019/2020 school year we launched the Stars in The Night for Schools program to better empower drama teachers and help students succeed.
